TRANSPORT AND DIRECTION

In our Pre-School Home-Based Learning classes, we talked about our favourite transport and read the story, “James Changes Colour.” The children were really engaged and, afterwards, spoke about the sequence of events within the story.

We spoke about the noise a train makes to focus on phonemic awareness and how James would move.

As part of our movement game, we stood up and made “train arms” to work coordination and gross motor skills. We increased the tempo of the movement from slow to fast and back to slow again. We then moved forwards and backwards, following instructions.

This worked the children’s sense of direction, proprioception skills as well as awareness of speed and following simple instructions.
