SELF-CARE SKILLS

The Chicks class in Woodland Mid-Levels are working on developing their self-care skills which play a very important role in the growth and development of a child. We have been encouraging children to wash their hands, take off and stow away shoes, put on their shoes without laces, put the trash into a waste bin, tidy up the site, clean up spills and wipe the table with a napkin, eating alone with a child-safe spoon or a fork, buttoning and u buttoning dressing frame independently.

The time and effort you invest into encouraging self-care is a sure way to help children feel capable and independent. As an early childhood teacher, I aim to make my students independent and make progress in every area they indulge In. Teaching a child to do simple self-care tasks is a surefire path to supporting the development of healthy self-esteem.

Taking time to let your child explore skills at an early age may take time but it’s well worth it because this impacts your child’s long term well-being, happiness and capabilities.
