WHY DO LADYBIRD’S HAVE SPOTS?

In Happy Valley, our recent inquiry project, ‘Why Do Ladybird’s have Spots’, led us into an inquiry around different insects and creatures in our environment. After examining and observing tadpoles, butterflies and a bee’s nest, the children recorded their ideas, questions and observations in a range of ways. Exploring non-fiction books helped us learn more about this topic as well as leading us into a new inquiry into how non-fiction books work including the characteristics such as the use of photographs and diagrams and the function of the glossary, index and contents page.

It has been wonderful to hear all the new language the children are readily using such as lifecycle, habitat, camouflage, metamorphosis and symmetrical.
