Key Staff

  • Mark Western

    Mr. Mark Western

    Head of School

Education: Bachelor of Physical Education – University of Toronto, Certified Counsellor and Workshop Facilitator, Master Practitioner in Neuro-Linguistic Programming

    Profile:
I’ve been working in the ‘early years’ education field for more than 20 years now. Initially I taught pre-school in Taiwan. After that, I worked as a curriculum coordinator for a large educational organization. From there I moved into children’s publishing and wrote over 100 children’s stories and textbooks. Seven years ago, I joined Woodland as a school supervisor.

What do you love about your job?
My greatest joy each day is interacting with the children (being a bit goofy!) and appreciating their enthusiasm for life and learning; it keeps me young. I also love planning events that "wow" children and their parents. Beyond that, there is quiet satisfaction in being part of a team and school that truly commits itself to “loving and nurturing kids” day in and day out.

Qualifications: Graduated in Australia with Senior Certificate - Major in Vocal & Music Performance, and over 6 years experience of working in an International School

What do you love about your job?
I love greeting children & parents and seeing them come to school with happy faces! Building up a good relationship with parents and learn about their culture have also been a passion of mine.

What do you enjoy most about working at Woodland?
I enjoy being a part of our team with great team spirit.  I cherish all the fond memories filled with laughter, care & support from each other at Woodland!

  • Ms Holly Forbes

    Ms. Holly Forbes

    Lead Teacher

Qualifications: Child Day Care Management Diploma, Qualified Kindergarten Teacher, Hong Kong Registered Teacher

Nationality/years in Hong Kong and/or Asia: Canadian, 14 years in Hong Kong

What do you love about your job?
My favourite part of my job is when a child has a ‘light bulb’ moment. After working so hard, a child grasps a concept that we have been working on in class. The look of joy and pride on their little faces is what teaching is all about!

What do you enjoy most about working at Woodland?
I enjoy working for Woodland as it offers every child a warm and safe learning environment, enabling them to explore and learn to their fullest potential. No matter how they continue to grow every year, being a part of Woodland is like being part of a family.

What’s your favourite memory of teaching at Woodland?
It is difficult to pinpoint a single memory, as my time teaching at Woodland has been full of lovely experiences. I just love all the wonderful children I have been able to meet from so many countries, with their personalities, curiosity, questions and thirst for knowledge. It’s a wonderful ride that I hope never stops!
