The Woodland Montessori Pre-School (Caine Road)

Conveniently located near the Mid Levels escalator on Caine Road, this vibrant school provides an exciting and nurturing environment in which children thrive. In addition to the classes we have at our main school site, we also offer classes at the Woodland Junior Academy, just across the street from the Woodland Montessori Academy.

At the Woodland Junior Academy, we offer Rollers, Wrigglers and Playgroup classes aimed at children from 6 to 30 months.

Key Staff

  • Ms Ellie O'Ready

    Ms. Ellie O'Ready

    Head of School

Nationality/years in Hong Kong and/or Asia: British, 7 years in Hong Kong

What do you love about your job?
Being around the children. Their enthusiasm and curiosity about everything is infectious. Oh, and all the cuddles!

What do you enjoy most about working at Woodland?
I consider myself very lucky to work in this environment as every day I know that what I do is truly worthwhile. It is incredibly rewarding to play a part in the development of a child’s self belief, which I think lays the foundation for them to go on to lead happy and successful lives.

What’s your favourite memory of working at Woodland?
There are so many! I remember we had a tiny Italian girl join us. She didn’t speak a word of English and so joined the English stream. Her English came along in leaps and bounds through the support and encouragement of her teachers, as did her confidence, which was lovely to see. Now she speaks Italian and English fluently plus a considerable amount of Mandarin!

  • Wendy Chung Flat

    Ms. Wendy Chung

    Deputy Head of School

Qualifications: BA Business Administration - University of Strathclyde Glasgow, PGCE Information Management

Nationality/years in Hong Kong and/or Asia: British – born and raised in Scotland, 14 years in Hong Kong

What do you love about your job?
All of the colleagues I work and grow with – better team, better school! Hearing the children's voices and giggles before we even open the doors and seeing their lovely warm smiles when they come into the school in morning is a great start to my day!

What do you enjoy most about working at Woodland?
Welcoming new children (local and abroad) to our school and maintaining good relationship with the parents. Each day is different – full of joy and laughter!

What do you like to do when you are not at school?
My children and family are the focus of a lot of my spare time and we love to travel as a family. I enjoy reading, shopping and spending time with my friends.

  • Ms Kitty Ho

    Ms. Kitty Ho

    Lower Year Supervisor

Qualifications: Bachelor of Arts in Psychology, PGDE in Education, Simon Fraser University, British Columbia, Canada

What do you love about your job?
It’s a great pleasure to see children growing from Rollers all the way to Stepping Stones, ready to go to the next stage. It’s amazing to see what they are able to achieve in just two short years… from crawling to walking, talking and learning!

And of course I enjoy working with my colleagues as they are really fantastic people.

What do you enjoy most about working at Woodland?
It’s filled with fun and laughter. Every day I get to meet and greet the children who are always happy to come to school. The children are nurtured and prepared in a caring pre-school environment, and I find parents and helpers also have a great time. It makes me feel great that our children and parents leave us with a smile on their face every day.

I am also a big fan of Woodland for my own children. Back before I started working here, I sent my eldest son Jovian to a summer school and my daughter Jasmine, who is a year old, is now attending Wrigglers - they both love it!

  • Alison Price

    Ms. Alison Price

Lower Years Supervisor - Woodland Junior Academy

Qualifications: International Montessori Teaching Diploma - NAMC

Nationality/years in Hong Kong and/or Asia: British, 26 years

What do you enjoy most about working at Woodland?
I love putting the key in the door in the morning and feeling like it’s a home away from home. We’ve created such a warm, loving and nurturing environment, which is lovely. To be part of the children’s young lives and seeing them blossom and grow, and later ‘graduate’ to primary school is wonderful. We get to know families well too and it’s rewarding at the end of the year when we receive so many positive comments that make the hard work and effort all worthwhile.

What’s your favourite memory of teaching at Woodland?
I think it has to be the annual Christmas concerts. We see the children get chosen for the various characters for the nativity show, see them speaking their lines for the first time, rehearse time and time again, try on their costumes for the first time and then put on the big performance in front of more than 100 parents. It’s such a proud moment for them and also for us!

  • Karen Lim

    Ms. Karen Lim

    Senior Lead Teacher

Nationality/years in Hong Kong and/or Asia: Malaysian, 7 years in Hong Kong

What do you love about your job? I love to help children discover their potential and develop and refine their physical and academic skills. In addition, this job allows me to have insightful exchanges with colleagues from different backgrounds on teaching ideas and practices.

What do you enjoy most about working at Woodland?
Woodland offers a nurturing environment that allows staff to work well together to achieve a common goal of educating children and helping them to achieve their potential.

What’s your favourite memory of teaching at Woodland?
I was very excited to see the sunflowers we planted over the summer had blossomed! I love witnessing the fun the children get in taking care of our class pets – Splat and Rainbow. It’s amazing to see how well tortoises grow and bond with the children!

  • Aisling Mcdonnell

    Ms. Aisling McDonnell

    Lower Years Lead Teacher

Qualifications: BA English & History, Special Needs Assistant, PG Certificate in Therapeutic Play

Nationality/years in Hong Kong and/or Asia: Irish. I have been in Hong Kong for just over 5 years.

Teaching Experience: I have been working with children for a decade now. This has not always been in a teaching capacity. My work with children has also been as a support worker, and a play therapist.

What do you love about your job? The children! Working with children of such a young age really is a joy (and not just because of all the hugs!). Each child is unique, meaning that each lesson is different.

What do you enjoy most about working with children?
I think my favourite thing about working with children is observing how they learn through play. This leads to many moments of discovery, and it is wonderful to see the pride on their faces when they accomplish something for the first time.

  • Jay

    Ms. Jay Mistry

    Assistant Lower Years Lead Teacher

Teaching Experience: I am originally from an IT background and by complete coincidence, fell into the teaching sector when I registered my child at ESF, where I ended up working for 8 years and absolutely loved it! I've also worked at ESF primary schools and taught at several local kindergartens too. I've not looked back ever since I found my passion in teaching - and that's teaching your little ones!

Nationality/years in Hong Kong and/or Asia: I am a British citizen, born in Kenya and lived in England for 22 years before moving to Hong Kong 17 years ago, so Hong Kong is very much home.

What do you love about your job?
I love being surrounded by little children and getting lots and lots of hugs! The energy and vibe I get from them is unexplainable and I love watching them blossom and develop within the short space of time that they are with me from Playgroup to Stepping Stones. They come in babbling and waddling, but by the time they reach Stepping Stones, they are almost conversing with their peers, running, jumping and becoming more independent. It's so wonderful to watch this transition.

What do you enjoy most about working with children?
I love the fact that these little children are so innocent and often say things that obviously don't mean any harm, but are hilarious! Whether it's how the words sound or perhaps what their parents are up to! I love the fact that when I see their faces and I'm having a bad day they most certainly make up for it and make me smile! Children are a joy to teach and bring precious happiness everyday.

What do you like to do when you are not teaching?
When I am not teaching I love to hike, practise yoga, read and travel. I am proud to say that I recently completed The Standard Chartered Marathon, and did the 50k Hong Kong Green Trail. I also may be running in the Phnom Penh Marathon with one of my colleagues!
